Barrage’s Call of Duty girls recently took part in the qualifying rounds for Season 3 of the Female Pro League. From 27 teams only 16 would qualify, so for the Barrage girls, still adjusting to their current roster and having little time to practise, it was certainly a difficult task ahead.
The girls’ first game found them up against FabE, who are also a scrim partner for the girls, during which they had failed to take a single map from them. Game 1’s hardpoint however saw Barrage clinch a 250-246 victory, coming up clutch after having a 100 point lead near overturned. Barrage were unfortunately beaten in maps 2 and 3 of S&D and Uplink respectively, placing them in the loser’s bracket going forward.
Next up was cE Guilty, and technical issues meant that one of their members and also their substitute couldn’t connect to the game, forcing them to either play with 3 members or face elimination. A somewhat expected 2-0 win for Barrage given the circumstances, but a win that never the less.
Round 3, found the girls playing against iDomina and another 2-0 win for Barrage which meant a fourth round and a rematch against FabE which Barrage were unfortunately beaten in again. Two wins against cE Guilty and iDomina however placed the girls in 9th-12th, qualifying as a top 16 team in their first tournament, an impressive feat for such a fresh roster.
Team Captain Caitlin felt that the lack of time to practice in the short time between their formation and the competition was the biggest inhibitor to their play.
'We needed to practise more. It showed against teams like FabE and in SND. I think Maja played very well considering her work hours rendered her unable to practise as much. We definitely were able to point out things we needed to work on but also able to praise ourselves on things that we did well.' – Caitlin Bell
To qualify for FPL in such a short space of time is certainly worthy of praise and the girls were able to identify various areas for improvement going forward. With around 3 weeks to prepare for FPL, we wish them the best of luck!
